Kindergarten Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs

We studied the Ukrainian art of creating Pysanky eggs. We compared and contrasted the original designs.

We reviewed the types of lines, then used that knowledge to draw one of each types of lines on our ovals that we drew on our paper.

Then we reviewed how to use a marker correctly and traced over our pencil lines with a black marker. The kindergartners were very excited about that since most of the time they didn’t use markers a lot in art.

After the original types of lines were traced over in black, I showed them how to fill in one section at a time with a color. I limited them to one marker at a time, but they could switch it out to another marker whenever they wanted. We really reviewed pushing the As hard as we could and asking for help if needed.

Then we cut out our eggs and glued them to a piece of construction paper of our choice. We drew a big zigzag line on green for the grass, then we cut it out. This provided us of one section of grass and one bonus section of cut out green zigzag. The students could do whatever they wanted with the extra and they got very creative.
